November 22, 2017
To the Membership of the Drug and Alcohol Testing Industry Association (DATIA); DATIA Board of Directors, Executive Director Laura Shelton and WPA, LLC President Jeff Smith
This letter serves as notice of our resignation from the Board of Directors of The Drug and Alcohol Testing Industry Association (DATIA) effective 5:00 pm ET on Wednesday, November 22, 2017.
As an elected member of the DATIA Board, we believe that the relationship between the Board of Directors and WPA, LLC, DATIA’s management company, has become unproductive and ineffective whereby we cannot properly serve the membership and mission of DATIA.
Given the discovery this week, that WPA, LLC, has voting rights constituting 100% plus 1; of the entire DATIA membership on any and all DATIA issues, the membership vote scheduled for Friday, November 24, 2017 to remove the Board, will, regardless of the wishes of the membership, remove the existing Board in its entirety.
We continue to support the members of the drug and alcohol industry and strongly believe that we need an association governed by a Board, an executive committee, a professional management organization, and a founder willing to act in the best interests of the association and its members. Further, we believe that the objectives, as stated in the By-Laws of DATIA, cannot be met without a revision of the Constitution of DATIA. We encourage members to request full disclosure from WPA, LLC of the “Constitution” of DATIA detailing the controlling interest and fee structure of WPA, LLC to determine if it meets the needs and objectives of each individual sponsor, associate and member. We hope that this review by the membership will result in any restructuring of the DATIA Constitution so the goals of the membership and the industry as a whole can be served in the future.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as a representative of the membership of DATIA.
